Banyoles

Dear Sir or Madam

I represent a very big group colled "Adelescents pels carrers". I am writting to you because we are concerned about plans to destroy the most important park of the city in our village to start to build a motorway. We don't agree with this new project.

In our opinion it's essentcial to have a park in the village because we can run, relax, sing or dance or simply do what we want and it's the only place where teenagers can do that.
We can build the motorway in another part of the village or in one of the three squares that we have.

We have therefore decided to take action, and we are going to organize a protest. For this reason we are sending you a poster and we hope that you will support us.
We need your help.
Please help us to continue having the park in Banyoles.

Your faithfully

Jordi Lladó

CHEERLEADERS

With their pom-poms, dance routines and bic smiles cheerleaders bring glamour to American footall matches. Go girls, go...!

Girls all over the USA dream of being a cheerleader. It is glamorous and fun, but it can also be dangerous. The world of cheerleading is very competitive, so girls have to be determined to succed. It's a good thing to have on your CV.
Another term for cheerleader is "pom-pom girl". Coloured pom-poms are part of the show! Pom-poms were invented in the 1930s and were made of paper. Today they are made of resistant vinyl.
Cheerleade3rs have to look "perfect" so they must not gain weight. The clubs monitor each ceerleader's shape and size.
Cheerleading is  a physical activity. Cheerleaders are strong and supple. Intense training routines ensure that their abdomen arms and legs are 100% muscle!
Glam boots Shocking white boots appeared in 1976. Before then, cheerleaders wore sports shoes.
A cheerleading routine lasts one to three minutes, but cheerleaders practise up to six hours, several nights per week.

PROFESSIONAL CHEERLEADERS
These girls are cheerleaders for the National Football League. Professional cheerleaders make 500 to 750 dollars per season... that's not a lot of money. And they have to buy their own uniform - that costs 650 dollars! So that's why most cheerleaders have a second, full-time job.

Fancy a flutter on a woolly jumper in the Sheep Grand National?

(CNN)From office sweepstakes to gambling grannies, Grand National fever is sweeping the UK ahead of the nation's world-famous horse race at Aintree on Saturday.

A record-breaking $219m is expected to be laid in bets across the globe on which colorfully named horse will master the fearsome fences over the four-mile course.
"It is the biggest betting event of the year by a long way," Mark Pearson, of British bookmaker Betfred, told CNN.
"With a worldwide television audience of 600m in 2014, it is simply the world's biggest race."
Irish jockey Tony McCoy will be the star attraction at Aintree as the multiple champion jockey races in his final Grand National on mount Shutthefrontdoor.
Grand National fever is so entrenched in the UK that some ideas are a little barmier (or should that be baa-mier?) than others.
Visitors to the Big Sheep family attraction in Devon on Saturday can place their bets on six of the best jumping sheep, including Woolly Jumper, Red Ram and Sheargar.
The racy sheep, which jump over show jumping poles, must be careful not to unseat their knitted jockeys.
Ascot, home to the prestigious royal flat racing meeting in June, also got in on the woolly races, by staging the Lamb National last month.
There was even a royal presence for the novice hurdlers as Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall watched from the sidelines.
"They did appear to be having a great time," Nick Smith, Ascot Head of Communications and International Racing, told CNN.
Sheep racing events are an unlikely success despite the dangers that the sheep will just follow each other aimlessly around the course.
"There's a sheep dog. They wouldn't do it on their own," laughed Smith.
"If anyone can get a sheep to jump a fence without a sheep dog I'm be very, very surprised. The sheep dog is the key talent in this operation.
"Having said that one or two of the lambs got a bit lost and the sheep dog had to round them up."
Could sheep racing ever usurp horse racing in the hearts and minds of the betting public?
Smith, for one, was quick to scotch the idea that sheep racing could be a regular fixture of the Ascot race calendar.
"It was a novelty event," he explained. "The chances of anyone watching a sheep dog race as a fan and transferring that into an interest in horse racing is nil."

Dear Sir or Madam,

I represent a group called ¨"Students Against Nuclear Energy". I am writing to you because we are concerned about plans to build a nuclear power station in our area.

In our opinion, nuclear powe stations are no safe, so if there is one near our town, the risidents might be in danger. If we have a nuclear power station here, it will be a problem for hundreds of years. Renewable energy, on the other hand, is a better alternative as it is cleaner and safer.

We are theredore decided to take action, and we are going to organize a protest. For this reason, we are sending you a poster and we hope that you will supoort us and helfp to publicize this event.

EXPERIMENT RAINBOW GLASS

Material

-Granulated white sugar
-Red, blue, and yellow food colouring
-Four glasses
-A mesauring cup
-A tablespoon
-A large glass
-Water
-An eyedropper

Stages

1.-Pour 200 ml of water into each of the four glasses.
2.-In each glass, add food colouing ansd sugar in he amounts indicated below.
3.-Gently mix the contents of each glass with a spoon. Rinse the spon between each glass to avoid mixing their contents.
4.-Using the eyedropper, slowly put 150 ml of the contents of glass 1 (red) into the big glass.
5.-Then add 150 ml of the content of glasses 2,3 and 4 making the drops flow on the inner edge of the large glass

GLASS 1                                GLASS 2                                                      GLASS 3

6 drops of                         6 drops of yellow food colouring            6 drops of blue food
red food                            +3 tablespoons of sugar                      colouring +2 tablespoons of
colouring                                                                                              sugar.
+4 tablespoons
of sugar

GLASS 4

3 drops of red food colouring
+3 drops of blue food colouring
+1 tablespoon of sugar

Whats happening? By adding sugar to the water, it dissolves and become invisible. Suddenly this changes the weight of the water. The more sugar is added to the water, the more the weight of the water increases. In other words, the water becomes denser (for the same amount of liquid it is heavier). In our experiment, the water with the greatest density is the red-coloured one, and the one wit he least density is the purple-coloured one. That's why it floats on the other liquids.
